Cardinal Health Case Study: How a Fortune 50 Company Solved Its MSK Gap with Sword.

A strategy built on data and collaborative partnerships.

Beginning in 2018, Cardinal Health decided to start a project that analyzed what trends were impacting worker health, risk, and productivity. In collaboration with Aon, its benefits consultant, the manufacturer and distributor of medical supplies determined that MSK pain was one of its top three primary health conditions affecting the employee experience. Notably, the other two health conditions—obesity and mental health—are comorbidities of MSK pain.

As a result, benefits leaders made it a priority to focus on reducing MSK disorders, which would simultaneously improve mental health and obesity issues. They knew that the implementation of a MSK benefit could aid thousands of employees and save millions in medical claims each year. The next question was: What would be a solution that is convenient, easy to use, and clinically effective?
